2008 The band is on tour again
January - Straight back from the festivities into rehearsal for the Mrs Sunderland competition.
February - Once again SYB came first in the Brass Band - 21 years and under class and took home the silver cup.
Our secretary, Bev Dalzell emailed the whole band saying "Your performance last night was really great and you produced a fantastic sound, very together and the dynamics of the pieces were lovely. It was noticeable how polished you all looked - apart from smart uniforms with shirts tucked in, how nicely you all filed onto the stage and into your seats, how you were all sitting up in your chairs with instruments at the ready, all together on Simon's baton....... and how well behaved you were (as always) whilst in the audience.
We also had a full complement of players, so thanks everyone. Well done to you all”
March - SYB played really well and looked very professional. The adjudicators were clearly impressed and the band thoroughly deserved their glowing remarks. Unfortunately even that and a lot of crossed fingers didn't get them through to the finals.
March - A curry evening was held at The Palace Tandouri in Denby Dale on the 20th. 48 band members, parents & friends attended and had a marvelous time.
April - Unfortunately numbers were short for SYB to defend their title at the Pogson Bray competition.
April - SYB were invited to play at a joint concert in aid of the Epilepsy Trust, along with Almonbury Ladies Choir and Lindley Junior School Choir, in Huddersfield Parish Church.
July - SYB managed the short march & played in the cricket field, ahead of the showers, for Thurstonland gala.
July - SYB had Skelmanthorpe B Band as guests at the 30th Anniversary Summer Concert. Both bands played a brilliant performance.
July - Immediately following the Summer Concert members rushed home to get changed & collect luggage to embark on tour to Valkenberg, in the Netherlands. Despite some issues with the hotel, its food and facilities, the band had a great time. Concerts were played in various venues in the area and of course there was lots of excursions & activities to fit in.
August - The annual barbeque was once again held at Sheila & Robin Heys farm
September - The trip to Ingleborough Hall was another great success
September - Following the 2007 joint concert with Shepley Band, this year saw the second, of what seems to be an annual event. Another wonderful performance by both bands, despite very little rehearsal time for SYB
September - Bowling at Wakefield Superbowl, went down well with the band members and parents alike..
November - Honley Remembrance Day Parade was once again led to the Cenotaph by SYB
November - Back, by invitation, to the Boarshurst Band Club. The concert went extremely well, with calls for encores. It was made particularly, although sadly, special when we informed that the Boarshurst Youth Band had been folded.
December - Christmas once again began with the Annual Christmas Concert in Holmfirth. The raffle prizes once again included a fabulous cake from Suzanne Readman, aunt to Lewis & Oliver Readman on Euphonium & Tenor Horn. As usual December was filled with busking and local carol concerts.
