1996 - THE BAND GET MARCHING

The Band lead the processions at several local galas, but their marching skills are really put to the test in Cumbria! In June they entered the Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Band Contest, marching down the main street and then performing on the stage in the contest area.

David Turnbull gives an excellent rendition of Georgia On My Mind.

As a result of this contest the Band were then invited to take part in the Kendal Torchlight Procession in September. This procession, the largest in the north of England, stretches for over 2 miles from start to finish and the route takes about 2 hours. Some march! The practice must have paid off, because the Band were awarded joint 2nd prize in the marching section!

September - The Band 'play' in both senses of the word at Alton Towers!

October - Back to Slaithwaite for Youth In Brass. The Band take 3rd prize and John Turnbull the Band's percussionist is awarded the Best Soloist Trophy for his xylophone solo 'The Flyer'.
