18 May - Scissett Youth Band take the honours in the youth section of the Huddersfield Brass Bands Association Spring Contest in Dewsbury Town Hall.

29 August - Ron Massey writes in the Examiner that Scissett Youth are preparing to take part in the Pontin's Youth Band Championship, at Prestatyn in November. He says 'This will be their biggest test to date'.

19 October - The band wins Youth In Brass for the first time. A new award is introduced for the Best Principal Cornet and this went to Scissett's 14 year old Neil Morley. The band perform in their new blue shirts and frills.

2 November - Pontin's Brass Band Championship Finals 1980. Whilst they didn't win, the whole of Huddersfield must have known of their efforts! The band featured in the Examiner on 3rd November with a picture showing the caption: A credit to Huddersfield. Just 3 days later there's another full page spread under the headline: They did us proud!
